Cardboard Regatta

Can you build a boat that can cross Splash Country’s pool? Can you stay afloat riding in nothing but cardboard and duct tape?
Find out as we challenge families to design, create and race a human-powered boat entirely made of cardboard and duct tape! Prizes will be awarded for creativity, speed, most FVPD spirit, and more! Come join us for this fun-filled event!

• Participants must make it down to the other side with 2 Operators in the craft at all times.
• Boat and Oar must be constructed out of Cardboard and Duct Tape. Must use an oar, no hand paddles will be allowed.
• Boat Dimension maximums: 8’ long x 6 ½’ wide
• You may decorate your boat how you please, so long as none of the restricted materials are used. Awards will go out to the most creative and best representation of the YMCA mission.
• Restricted Materials: wood, cloth, Styrofoam (of any type), foam rubber, rubber or rubber coatings, plastic pipe, plastic coatings, balloons, inner tubes, or any other floatation material or devices, etc. All boats will be inspected prior to the race. Disqualified boats can compete but will not be eligible for prizes.
• Wax as a waterproofing coating is permissible below the waterline. Painting the boats is allowable above the waterline.
• Life jackets must be worn by all participants on the boat while in the water in order to participate.

Class I: Youth (ages 6-13)
Class II: Adult (ages 14 +)

The Sailfish Award: fastest time
The Vogue Award: most creative ship and crew
FVPD Award: Best depiction of the FVPD mission
Titanic Award: Most spectacular sinker overall
