Major Events

Mid-American Canoe & Kayak Race 

The historic Mid-Am… famously fun times! This popular canoe/kayak race is for paddlers of all ages and abilities, featuring 11 canoe divisions, 8 kayak divisions and 1 open (non-competitive) division. From the ultra-competitive, experienced river runners to young families and newbies just wanting to enjoy a memorable paddling experience on the Fox River – IT’S ALL HERE! 

  • Canoe and Kayak rental discount packages – just show up and your boat is waiting – and gets picked up afterward. Nice!! 
  • Free shuttle service between the start and finish lines – including a large-capacity school bus for greater service 
  • T-shirt and lunch included with registration 
  • Party in the Park at McCullough Park – apres-paddle fest featuring food, music, prize drawings, local vendor booths, live interviews with race participants and awards ceremony (1st, 2nd & 3rd in all divisions, both races) 

When: Sunday, June 3
Where: Fox River; start lines in St. Charles (9 a.m. start) at Batavia (10:30 a.m.). Both races finish at McCullough Park in Aurora
Ages: All ages, but paddlers under 14 require parental consentll
Fee: St. Charles – $25 per person. Batavia – $20 per person. Rental boats are separate fee.

Summer Stage presents ‘The Little Mermaid’ 

This summer, let the Premiere Theatre Company carry you Under the Sea, with the smash hit, ‘The Little Mermaid.’ In this beguiling romp, rebellious mermaid, Ariel, is fascinated with life on land. Join her on her forbidden visits to the surface, where she falls in love with Prince Eric. Accompanied by plenty of song, dance, colorful sets and fabulous costumes, this show is not to be missed. Tickets are available beginning June 16. Rehearsals begin June 4 at Prisco, Mondays through Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. Required tech week rehearsals are July 9 to 12 from 6 to 10 p.m. Performance dates are July 13, 14 and 15 at West Aurora High School.

Fox Valley Amazing Race 

Create a team of four adults and embark on an amazing race just like the famous TV show! In this four-hour adventure, teams are given a map and sets of clues to try and get from start to finish, completing mental and physical challenges along the way. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. Registration also includes awards ceremony, pizza celebration and a T-shirt if registered by July 23. Early bird registration rate of $84 is now available through July 6. Beginning July 7, the normal rate of $96 will be in effect. Registration ends Aug. 4.
*This event takes place throughout the Fox Valley Park District.

Insects and the fascinating world of bugs will take center stage! The free, family-friendly, stroller-friendly event will feature fun and educational attractions with a swarm of bug-related activities, demonstrations and crafts.  

Parking is available at Schneider Elementary School (304 Banbury Road, North Aurora), with free shuttle buses running regularly between those sites from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

 Visitors begin their exploration at Lippold Park, where free guide books will be available, along with T-shirts, pins, lanyards and other buggy items for sale. Children can earn prizes for visiting special Bug Fest stations. 

 Children and adults alike will learn about the benefits of bugs and the important roles they play such as pollinating plants and flowers, aerating the soil and serving a major role in connecting the food chain for humans.
