Whether it’s soaking, sunning, singing – or all of the above – who’s up for a generous dose of fun this summer? From concerts to canoe races, we’re rolling out a variety of activities to meet your pace of play.

Free Fishing Derby

Connect with nature, meet new friends, and gain some fishing experience in a fun and relaxed setting along the shore of Jericho Lake. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or have never picked up a pole, stop by to enjoy a morning of fishing followed by a grilled lunch. Poles and light tackle will be available for those without gear, and live bait will be provided. No registration is required.

When: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, May 20

Mid-American Canoe & Kayak Race

Launch your watercraft and experience the excitement of paddling the Fox River in a community tradition that dates to the 1960s. More than 300 paddlers participated in last year’s long-anticipated return after the previous four races were scratched due to unforeseen circumstances. Choose from two starting locations that include several divisions, and enjoy a post-race celebration in McCullough Park!

When: Saturday, June 3
Where: Starting points in St. Charles or Batavia; finish at McCullough Park/Prisco Community Center in Aurora.
Ages: 8+ (participants under 8 must be accompanied by an adult)

Live & Uncorked

A summer concert series so popular and fun that we extended it to 8 weeks in 2023! Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, wagons, collapsible tables, coolers … and enjoy a variety of toe-tappin’ tunes played by Chicagoland’s top cover bands throughout the summer at Blackberry Farm. Purchase tickets online in advance to save $2 and skip the line at the park. Season passes available!

When: 7 p.m., Thursdays from June 8 through July 27

Fox Valley Golf Academy

New in 2023! The Fox Valley Golf Academy welcomes youth players to embark on a “golf journey” beginning at age 6 through 14 with progressive instruction at every stop along the way. The Golf Academy offers six instruction-based programs beginning the first week of June. Check the Adventure Playbook for details.

Adult Float Night

Enjoy a relaxing evening at the pool without the familiar screeches and shrills (if ya know what we mean). Kick back and meander along the Lazy River, paddle around the pool, or crank up the speed and head to the slides – your choice at your pace! Guests are welcome to pack a cooler with food and pre-sealed non-alcoholic drinks.

World’s Largest Swim Lesson

Launched by the World Waterpark Association in 2010, this FREE global drowning prevention event promotes the fundamental importance of teaching children to swim. Since its inception, more than 354,000 children and adults on 6 continents have participated in WLSL lessons. Children who participate are welcome to enjoy Phillips Park Family Aquatic Center for an hour after the lesson.

Summer Solstice 5K

Maximize the daylight during one of the longest days of the year with a jaunt through Blackberry Farm and along the Gilman Trail at dusk. All participants will receive chip-timed results, t-shirt (if registered by June 12), post-race snacks, including beverages for those 21+, and participation medals. Awards will be presented to top overall finishers.

Cardboard Regatta

Hey, families! Start collecting that corrugated cardboard, duct tape and permanent markers, and make plans to join us as we say farewell to Summer Camp with our annual “race” across the pool at Splash Country Water Park! Design, build and race your human-powered vessel made of cardboard! Registration includes 4 admission tickets to the pool and prizes will be awarded for creativity, speed, FVPD spirit and more.

When: 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 26

Fox Valley Amazing Race

Stamina, smarts, and savvy come into play throughout this four-hour adventure patterned after the popular TV show … with an FVPD twist! Teams of 4 are given a map and sets of clues before they embark on part scavenger hunt/part obstacle course with mental and physical challenges to complete along the way. Registration includes an awards ceremony, post-race celebration with food and drinks, and a T-shirt (if registered by July 23).
