Per tradition, the Summer Playgrounds Camp program will continue to offer FREE camps during June and July for resident children ages 6 to 11. However, this popular program will now be run through the Fox Valley Park District’s scholarship program.
So, what effect will these changes
Beginning in 2017, children wishing to take part in the Summer Playgrounds Camp FREE OF CHARGE must first apply for a scholarship and then be approved in order to enroll.
Visit the scholarships web page and check out the FAQs below:
How do I apply for a Park District scholarship that allows me to enroll in Summer Playgrounds?
Priority deadline for applications is May 19.
What do I do if my scholarship application is approved?
Once approved, participants must register in-person at a Park District community center – Eola, Prisco or Vaughan – or at the Cole Center Administration Center (101 W. Illinois Ave.)
What are the alternatives if my scholarship application is not approved?
Children can still participate in Summer Playgrounds Camp if they are not eligible for the scholarship program; however, they must pay $59 per week per child.
Fox Valley Park District offers hundreds of camps that are among the most affordable in the Chicagoland area. Other day camp options include Summer Blast Camp, Epic Adventures Camp and Camp Blackberry. Also, Neighborhood Art camps are offered for free every day at various park sites through mid-July. Browse the Summer Camp Guide.
How long until I find out if I’m approved for a scholarship?
Approvals can take up to 10 business days.
Why is the Park District making these changes to Summer Playgrounds Camp after years of offering it free to everybody?
To promote social equity and extend opportunities to resident families experiencing financial hardship, the Park District is adopting this new policy to ensure those families most in need are afforded free camp through the scholarship program.
