Park Service Officers play a key role in maintaining safe, secure facilities, parks and events while assisting Fox Valley Park District sworn officers with law enforcement tasks such as preparing reports, supervising large crowds, and even writing tickets.
“It’s an on-the-job introductory snapshot of policework, which helps young PSOs decide if this career is something they want to continue to pursue,” says Jeff Logan, FVPD’s deputy chief of police. “Many of today’s full-time officers at local agencies got their start here as a PSO – I believe in the program wholeheartedly.”
Looking to fill seven PSO positions for the upcoming warm-weather season, Logan and staff from FVPD’s Police & Public Safety department will have a table at FVPD’s Job Fair to be held from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. this Saturday at Prisco Community Center. Staff from various FVPD departments will be on hand to meet prospective candidates and conduct interviews at the District’s marquee recruiting event.
Last year more than 200 attended the Job Fair, and officials expect similar numbers this year. Kelly McGloon, FVPD’s human resources coordinator, said staff will be looking to fill around 350 seasonal positions, many of which are involved with summer programming and the maintenance required to keep FVPD facilities – indoors and out – clean and safe.
Along with PSOs, open positions include FVPD Weddings team members, including a manager on duty and coordinator; lifeguards and slide attendants; parks and grounds maintenance; camp counselors; admissions/guest services attendants; MVP Sports coaches; and so much more.
“People come here looking for their very first jobs, and some will be with us their entire careers,” says McGloon. “From interviewing at the Job Fair to the hiring and onboarding process, our goal is to make it as simple as possible for candidates and a positive, fun experience for everyone.”
Ages 15+ can apply
Positions are available to anyone age 15 and older, and attendees are strongly encouraged to pre-register for the event by submitting their application and resume through the FVPD’s Job Fair Pre-Registration Portal. All attendees will receive a folder filled with helpful inserts, including a Job Fair map, list of open positions, a “What’s Next?” sheet, and a survey. Those who complete the survey will receive their choice of a $20 Amazon or McDonald’s gift card when they stop by the checkout table. Additionally, three $100 Amazon gift cards will be awarded, as Job Fair attendees will receive one drawing entry for every interview they complete with staff.
Interviews will be conducted onsite, and light refreshments will be served throughout. A family waiting area will be set up while other family members meet with staff or partake in interviews.
Hiring managers will answer questions, and help match candidate interests with open positions, and FVPD’s Information Technology team will have a resource table/help desk set up for registration and troubleshooting.
Says McGloon: “There’s such a wide selection of positions that fit so many interests and skill sets. Staff is excited to meet the best candidates at this year’s Job Fair, and fill as many of those vacancies as possible.”
