Canoe Specifications
Race Hull Division
Length maximum: No restrictions
Width maximum: No restrictions
Maximum length of permanent deck: 50 inches; no restrictions on fabric decking
Cruising Hull Division
Length maximum: 18 feet, 6 inches
Width minimum: .14375 x length (at 4-inch deep waterline located within one foot of the center of the length)
Bow height minimum: 15.5 feet (the minimum depth of the remainder of the canoe shall be 11.5 inches) Any material may be used.
Kayak Division
Division for one paddler Short under 16 feet in length and Long 16 feet or longer; (Includes Sea Kayak 16 feet or longer)
Open (non-competition) Division
No trophy awarded; unlimited number of participants per canoe. Any seaworthy, paddle-powered canoe or kayak may enter. T-shirts and refreshments are limited to two paddlers per canoe.
Recreation Class
This class is for “regular” canoes made by—but not limited to—Grumman, Alumacraft, Old Town, Coleman, etc. Any canoe material is permissible. Canoes designed for racing are not allowed. No canoe over 18 feet, 2 inches in length permitted.
Participants
All participants are required to sign a waiver of liability. Each contestant under the age of 18 on July 1, 2008, must also have a parent or guardian’s signature on the waiver of liability.
Any participant who violates the rules and regulations set forth in this brochure and the race packet (sent to all contestants) will be subject to disqualification at the discretion of the race officials.
Life Jackets (PFD)
Contestants will be required to have a Coast Guard-approved PFD in their possession during the entire race. This is a type I, II or III. Cushions are not allowed. In case of high water, race officials may require contestants to wear their life jackets. PFD must
be worn by all non-swimmers and all participants under the age of 14.
Safety and First Aid
During the race, first aid will be available at the starting area, each portage and the finish line. Emergency communication is available at each portage by the Fox River Radio League.
Free Shuttle Bus Service
Racers needing shuttle service should drop off their canoes/kayaks at the VFW and then park their vehicles at the Prisco Community Center. Free shuttle buses will be running from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Racers are responsible for transporting boats.
