School Field Trips

General Field Trips

Experience the sights and sounds of Blackberry Farm throughout our general field trip. During your self-guided tour, your class will ride the train and hay wagon and visit exciting places including the Pioneer Cabin, One Room Schoolhouse, Discovery Barn, and Early Streets Museum.
Dates offered: May 1 through Aug. 27
Pricing: $4 per person (in-district schools); $5.50 per person (out-of-district schools); 1-to-5 chaperone-to-student ratio.

Customized School Trips

These field trip experiences are designed to complement your classroom curriculum and are correlated to Illinois State Learning Standards. Your class will rotate between designated sites to create a hands-on, historical learning experience.
Dates offered: Last two weeks of April and the third week of September through the end of  October.
Pricing: $7 per student. Teachers and adult chaperones are free.

Preschool and Kindergarten

Fall

Apple Hayride: Students will learn about the interesting life of Johnny Appleseed, taste apple treats, discover how apples grow and create a take-home surprise. The tractor-driven hayride and the train ride include stops at our Pioneer Cabin, Apple Orchard and Apple Press. (2 hours)

First Grade

Step Back In Time: Students will learn how a child of the 1800s lived by visiting the One Room Schoolhouse, Pioneer Cabin, Farm Museum, and Barn. They will experience a school lesson and dip a candle. In fall they will prepare cattle feed; in spring, chicken feed. (2 hours).

Fall Harvest: As the leaves began to change, Illinois pioneers needed to bring in the crops and prepare for the long winter. Students will explore the chores, foods, and entertainment of the frontier past, visiting our Pioneer Cabin, Weaver’s Cabin, Farm Museum and Barn. (2 hours)
